My complaint regards how Southtown conducts themselves when trying to sell vehicle. I experienced two situations where I felt they were being dishonest. The first was when I had put down a deposit on a new truck, but Southtown had to get it from another dealer out of the city of Edmonton. I had the window sticker, and it had all the options I wanted. The next day I had not heard from the salesman to confirm they had got the truck, and it was on its way to Edmonton, so I called him. He indicated that the one I made the deal on was not available, and he had found another replacement. I specifically said it MUST have all the same options as the first truck, and he assured me it would. I asked him where it was coming from, and he said Fairview. After this discussion I went on the internet to check the inventory at the Fairview dealership, and the printed the window sticker of the only truck close to the one I wanted. I put the two window stickers beside each other and determined there were three items different/missing. The radio was different, the console was different, the seats were different, and it did not have a hood protection shield.
I called Southtown to get the VIN of whatever vehicle they were getting me as a replacement, and they eventually faxed it to me. I noticed right off that the VIN they gave me, matched the one from Fairview with the missing options (it was not identical like the salesman said). They gave me a VIN for a vehicle I did not want, and had I not checked the options, I would have purchased insurance etc using that VIN. I contacted Southtown and complained that they did this, questioning their integrity and honesty. They responded saying that they would refund my money, but I should go look at the truck since they had driven it from another town. I went the next day and did so, and decided to move forward with the purchase, however I wanted them to deduct the costs of the options that were missing from the replacement truck. There was a difference of $290 for the seats/console and $120 for the hood protection shield. I didn't care about the radio being different. I also asked they put mud flaps on the vehicle which are on all the trucks they sell by default. They agreed to doing the above but when they came to a total, it was $250.00 out from the total I had calculated. I asked why, and they said the truck had "Caliper guards" or something. I said to them I had the window stickers for both vehicles and I don't see anything named like they described, and to show me where they see this additional option and its cost. The salesman went away to the sales managers office, and the manager came out and told me to give him my credit card, and he cancelled the deal refunding me my deposit. A defense or any proof that there was a $250 dollar caliper guard was never shown to me, and given how they conducted themselves, I assumed they were just trying to get another $250.00. I left the dealership sort of stunned that they did this because of all the work I did with them to find a vehicle. This was however, the second time in a row they tried to deceive me and hope I wouldn't notice.
Do your homework, see the window stickers for anything you are dealing on. Compare the options if you end up deciding on something to ensure it has what you want. Don't trust what the salesman tell you, or sales manager for that matter. Watch your costs.. ask what the other costs will be to close the deal before you sign.

After recently purchasing a Chrysler Sebring used. Upon my pick up of the car, it was empty and the cleaning promised was not delivered. The car, being used, was still very dirty and I spent over two hours of my own time clearing it as well as I would have liked it delivered it to me.
Also, after inquiring several months later on a Jeep Compass for my wife to be, the sales staff told me that the model I was looking at was a V6 when in fact when he showed me the engine was a definite 4 cylinder. He also knew very little concerning the vehicle and its options. Furthermore, He made it awkward when leaving insisting I should put money down on the vehicle. When asking how much it would cost, the salesmen told me that the numbers could be crunched and get back to me but I still needed to hold it with a deposit of $500 Needless to say I walked out the door and went to Crosstown Motors, Edmonton, where I was free to browse, spend over an hour with a sales person, talk about other things and felt no pressure to buy even after he spent that time with me. Crosstown Motors will be getting ALL my future business.

When buying my new truck I asked for a written quote with all the options the truck had so I could contact canadacarcost.com to make an offer. I was given the written quote that included the serial number of the truck I was buying on it. The day after picking up the truck my wife and I started noticing options missing. After comparing the quote to the truck we found that there was a total of 13 options missing from my truck. Some of the options my truck was supposed to have were pointed out in the test drive and weren't on the truck I purchased, the took me for a test drive in one and sold me another one. The old bait and switch. I called the dealership and was offered a free oil change(thanks but no thanks). I then proceeded in filing a complaint with The Alberta Motor Vehicle Industry Council (they regulate and licence the dealerships), and finally after 3 months of fighting and AMVIC threatening legal action they took the truck back less my payments I lost about $2000.00 on the deal.
Get everything in writing, don't take anybody's word on anything.

I went there on 05Aug04 and talked to one Wayne Dicks - I was planning to buy a Grand Caravan. So during the initial discussion I was told that I can get a vehicle with ABS, cruise control, climate control and 2nd row captains seat with 5000 down and a monthly payment of $400 (60 months, buying, 0% interest). But on 07Aug04, when I went there to finalize the deal, they changed all the deal and now they are saying that the offer is $469 - There sales Manager is no better. These people are more suitable for candy selling than new cars - May be lack of proper training and a touch of professionalism - I don't like to go that place anymore and goodbye to SouthTown.

very dismayed by sales staff who, while eager, do not know their product well, and do not provide good after-sales care; good experiences with service staff, but would not purchase from sales staff here again

I own a Dodge and have been very happy with the service I received at this dealership. They even have gone above and beyond in some cases. However was extremely disappointed with the Sales staff recently. Went in to look at a new vehicle was specific with what I wanted (right down to the color and interior and payment options, affordable so if something happened to my spouse i could still afford it), and the sales person I had did not listen to a word I said. He kept pushing the options I didn't want or need. When things started to look up I then got lambasted with one of his suppose to be funny comments and instead he totally offended me. When a salesperson makes a comment that basically says if your spouse dies tomorrow, just find another man. I did leave and will not be purchasing from this dealership again.
Service was excellent, Sales staff needs a lot of improvement.

The service representatives I dealt with and the mechanic who worked on my vehicle were excellent. The problem with my vehicle was sporadic. By the time I would have my vehicle towed to the dealer, it worked fine. They could just have just replaced every possible part that may have been causing a problem ( at big $$$ to me ) but they made a determined effort to find the exact cause and only replace the part that was intermittently shutting down. Both the service representatives and the mechanic went above and beyond to track down the problem. The mechanic even drove the vehicle home one night knowing that it may strand him on the side of the road.
I would recommend this Service department to anyone. Great job , thanks!!!

I would never ever go back to this dealership. Their finance dept. is so slow. Their staff is arrogant and sadly so is the management. As we were signing the papers with intentions on returning the following day. The salesman kept asking us is we were sure we didn't want to put any money down. First he started at $500 and by the time we left was begging for even $25. If we have any problems in the future this is the dealership we are supposed to return to. Keep that in mind when buying a vehicle. There is no way that we want to put ourselves through any more of their running around. Do yourselves a favor and seek a dealership that you can work with. Thank Goodness their coffee machine is not run by staff. At least there we had good service!
Sorry to say this but this dealership really adds to the bad name of Car Salesmen.

Very good at telling you what you want to hear but not what is the real truth. Will do anything to keep you in the door and buy a vehicle. What was said and what was done are two different things. Our Caravan has gone back three times to have missing parts and paint taken care of and none of it has been done. I am very sorry that I did not by a General Motors product like I wanted to because the dealership that I have done my business plus my family have very, very happy! Chrysler has some very good products but they need to clean up the dealerships such as Southtown, for I will never buy a Dodge again.

We were welcomed very warmly the first time we set foot on the dealership lot, but as we started to deal on a vehicle, we were given worse service every time we had to go back. We were never told the cost of the vehicle until the very end on the deal, which we should have just walked out right then and there.
We noted it with the Sales person that there was a scratch on the front right side of the vehicle and that there was a panel on the sliding passenger door missing. He told us that both would be repaired before we received the van, and neither were, again we should have walked out on the deal at this point, too.
The vehicle wasn't filled full of fuel when we received it, and we have now been told that the repair to the front passenger side paint will be a bigger job then what was first told to us. We have had the van in for service 4 times since we bought it, and we keep getting it back without the repairs done.
We are not going to let them get away with this type of service, we are willing to go back in there and hand in the keys, and cancel the financing on this agreement.
