I took my 1999 Dodge Ram in to be serviced and to have a vibration and thumping noise investigated. I suspected the tires needed to be balanced so I was not surprised when they said that the tires were severely out of balance. I had them balance, rotate the tires, do alignment, check brakes, radiator flush fill, transmission fluid flush/fill, axle fluids, and 40,000 mile service.
After I got the vehicle back, I noticed the thumping was gone, but there was still a vibration at 40-45 mph and 60+ mph. I took the truck back and told them the tires were not balanced properly yet. The service person told me that the tires were balanced "perfectly" and that they could find nothing wrong with the truck except that for that year and model they said that only a set of Michelin tires would correct the vibration problem.
I bought a new set of tires although I only had 20,000 on my last set with lots of tread left. I bought Cooper tires. When they were put on I had the service people inspect the old tires. They told me that they were out of balance!!!!
Not only that they showed me the brakes and pads and I could see for myself that the brakes needed to be serviced immediately. Anniston Lincoln Mercury Dodge wrote on the printout that the brakes were in "good" condition. Obviously they didn't even bother to inspect them!! I doubt that they even performed much of the service work they said they did. I am most astonished that they would jeopardize my safety and the safety of my family by not inspecting the brakes properly or doing the balancing properly. I will never go back for service there again.
Dodge trucks look good but their service stinks! I will probably be able to add many more problems as time goes on.
