Purchased a 1998 Dodge Dually truck, I asked questions regarding any major issues
with the truck. I was informed that it passed their inspection no major problems
were noted, I was told that the markup was only 1000.00. After driving the truck
for 400 miles on a trip it was discovered that a significant amount of "Blow
by" caused by Excessive ring gap was present. They sold me the extended
Warrantee package and basically told me it was very necessary. While on the
road we noticed that oil was dumping on the road thru the blow by hose, 18 quarts
total! I called while on the road and spoke to a service manager about this
condition, he stated if you don't have an extended warrantee, our business is
concluded, its your problem. I returned to the dealership ready to drive the
truck thru the doors and spoke to Joe Upshaw (lot salesman) whom informed me
that they don't do business that way and they would correct the problem on the
spot. I turned in the truck on Monday Morning at 8 am. I was told they would
get on it right away, It was implied that Autoville would pay for the repairs.
Autoville has their own service department, I called on Wednesday and was informed
that they would not even start working on the truck until Friday! The following
Monday I was called and informed that it was Excessive ring gap. I called again
Wednesday 30 June and spoke to the mechanic who informed me that I was not to
mention the fact that excessive ring gap was the problem. As for the extended
warrantee package if it was a pre-existing condition it would not be covered
by their warrantee package! I was not to mention the fact that I had driven
the truck for only two days (thus they knew about it when it was sold) as well
as the output and input seals on the front 4X4 leaked, as did the transfer case
and rear axle. In order to avoid excessive blow by, it seems the oil pan was
loosened to relieve oil pressure in the oil system (I tightened them as well
as the rear axle cover. I am going to seek legal action to resolve this matter
after getting the truck back. front end work was also conducted by Les Schwab
for a total of 350.00
Its a good thing they inspected the truck and ensured its mechanical systems
were operational! who did they hire to do the inspection? Enron?
This was a scam from the beginning. Here's how it works. Buy the truck at a
dealer auction, find out its damaged. Sell it at its full used value in "as
is " condition. Ensure the customer pays 2200.00 for the package (which
they get a commission for) then when the customer complains pick up the vehicle
and fix it at your own shop and bill the insurance company as well. So you earn
profit from sale, commission from package, and profit from repairs! all at the
customers expense and endurance.
take any vehicle they want to sell you for 24 hours and take it to the local
dealership directly for an inspection. If its all good you agree to pay for
the inspection, something major screwed up or non functioning then they can
try and sell to to someone else. I would not recommend this place for vehicle
purchase by any means. The sting of a rip off, hurts long after the joy of a
new purchase has worn down.
