On Saturday, August 11, 2007, my husband and I went in to sign a contract to
buy a new truck from Magnussen's Auburn Dodge that he had already negotiated
the purchase price of over the phone. At the time that we sat down with our
salesman, we gave him a payoff letter for our trade in, which stated that we
owed $14,707. Our salesman promptly took the payoff letter to the office of
the finance manager, who was writing our contract. Shortly after, we were taken
into the finance manager's office, where we signed our contract and were insulted
for not wanting to purchase an extended warranty on a brand new vehicle, and
also discovered that with no negotiation at all, the trade in value of our vehicle
had been set at $7,500 -- approximately $4,000 below it's true trade in value,
according to the industry standard Kelley Blue Book. We decided to take that
offer anyway, because we felt that we were getting a good deal on the new truck.
We were take VERY quickly through the contract and when I looked at the estimated
payoff for the trade from where I was sitting, I thought it said $14,800, which
would cover the payoff and have a little bit coming back to us. I was not signing
the contract - it was my husband's purchase, so the paperwork was not oriented
so that I could see it well. The finance manager simply said "We are paying
off your trade in" and moved on down the contract. Having given him the
payoff letter and thinking that I saw $14,800 on the contract, we moved on.
We were also angry to discover, as we left the dealership, that there was so
little fuel in the new truck that we were actually concerned that we would not
make it to a gas station. It was explained to us then, that Dodge no longer
fills up gas tanks on new vehicles. Today, August 17, we received a call from
the dealership stating that we owed them $725 because they had UNDERESTIMATED
the payoff! We gave them documentation of the EXACT payoff amount! I called
them to address the situation that had been caused by their finance manager's
mistake. I asked that it be resolved by increasing the amount of the trade,
since it had been valued so much lower than it's actual value, I was told no,
the only way to fix it was for us to bring them a check for the amount due or
sign a new contract to roll it into the price of our vehicle.

After trying to find a used 1999 thru 2002 Ford Crew Cab with less than 100,000
below $25,000, and not having any luck or even close, I went to Costco to see
what they could do to get me a new dodge diesel. I submitted my needs online
with Costco and within 15 minutes, a fleet salesman called me. I told him what
I wanted for a minimum; 4x4, 6 speed manual, diesel, crewcab. Then told him
that if I had anything left in my budget, I would consider options. The salesman,
Matt Harrison, asked me what options I would be considering. I let him know
the usual; leather, heated seats, big mirrors, etc. He sent me an e-mail with
a price quote for a Laramie 2BJ pkg with extra options TT5, GPG, GFD, CMA, AHC,
and ABD for $34,670 plus tax and DMV fees. Well, that was it!! I drove over
there, test drove a similar truck, and ordered a new one to be built. No pressures
or hassles; just a written deal that mirrored Edmunds.com website for invoice
on the truck with all those options at invoice as well. Since the truck hasn't
been in for any service, I can't report on that. I recommend calling Matt and
going through Costco for a good deal without any hassles.

I took my dodge truck in for a rear end leak that was to be covered by dodge.
I was asked if i had my 15,000 transmission service done yet and replied no
but was that what dodge recommended. I was told it was. The next day i was called
and told my brake line was melted against my exhaust and it needed to be replaced.
i called the business that had installed the exhaust system and they said they
would make the needed at no charge. i called the dealership and informed them
that i would have the repairs done elsewhere. they informed me the truck was
not safe to drive. i said if the truck was not safe to drive then to do the
work but to save the parts. after having the work completed i inspected the
brake line and didn't believe the line needed to be replace or had my truck
been unsafe to drive. I called the california b.a.r. and explained the to the
experience i had and what the problem was and determined that my truck was safe
and i in fact could have driven it to another repair shop safely. secondly i
reviewed my dodge manual and it gave the maintenance mileage for having the
transmission service mileage at 30,000 to 100,000 miles depending on the type
of usage. magnussens had originally agreed to refund my money for repairs on
the brake line repair but when i brought up the unnecessary transmission service
they just indicated it was their recommendation not dodge. they went on to say
because they felt i was not a happy customer they would not refund the repairs
on the brake line. i will not let this continue to go on unresolved and will
be filing a complaint with small claims court. I feel they hosed me twice!
I love the truck!

They moving the vehicle I wanted to there dealership. They said it was a conditional
buy - I didn't have to make the decision until I actually saw the vehicle and
made sure it was what I wanted. So I drove up to the dealership to agree on
the price and sign an intent to buy. Twenty minutes later they furnished me
with the sales agreement and said that I was purchasing and that was the only
way they could get the vehicle to them. I was originally told that I didn't
have to buy a vehicle I had not seen and reminded the sales manager of that.
He denied the conversation and told me again that the only way he could obtain
the car from the other dealership was if I was buying. That wasn't the agreement
the sales guy made over the phone therefore I was not about to purchase a $23000
vehicle without first seeing it. I got up and walked out.

I live close to this dealership and boy, do we see lots of Dodge trucks with
their dealer plate frames up and down the area including Sacramento. So as I
am shopping for a Dodge, and my wife was very pleased with her purchase of a
Toyota from Magnussen's Toyota right down the road, I went in. I was up front
and informed the salesman that I was not buying today as I am just checking
it out after many positive comments about the Cummins. The salesman was very
friendly and positive. He showed me around, allowed me to check out everything,
and got the keys for a test drive. There was no hardball, in your face, buy
it today or else approach. It was very cordial and relaxed. My neighbor down
the street bought her Durango there, their best just bought a 1 ton diesel there,
and all relayed very a positive experience. When it's time to sign on the dotted
line, I have no problems going to Magnussen's. I am just surprised that they
have not been posted up before.
