I can't even call this place a dealership. It's more like a nightmare in every respect. Worthless place to say the least. Let me tell you why:
I had moved and it was the most convenient place because it was on the way to work. Despite the fact that someone was killed at this dealer some time prior and a rather large fire had been started in the garage about 2 weeks prior I decided to check them out (Perhaps it was only bad luck?) I had a few problems with the truck, at that time 43000 miles on the odometer. 1. PS Pump was leaking really bad 2. Blender door had a problem, heat/floor setting would have air coming out of the vent and defrost. 3. Trans was acting up and had a delayed shift from 1st 4. I wanted to get a prom flash (PCM Flash) so that I could have the benefits of winter idle enhancements.
The service sales person stated that all would be fine and he would take care of the warranty stuff. He called me back and said that the PS pump would be replaced, the trans had a solenoid pack which needed to be replaced so the deduct able was $100 and all else would be covered. Later, when I asked about the other problems/request the service sales person claimed that the heat/blender door was operating as designed and that there should always be heat coming from the vents. (Indicator number 1 to me that this guy was full of crap.) I called him on it and he said in any case they would not fix such a thing because they would have to take apart the entire dash. He said that they would do it for $400 or something, needless to say I was not going to pay. When I had mentioned that this problem acted up before he had told me that it was now the responsibility of who ever fixed it last time (Bentenhousen). **I gave up on the heater problem which subsequently fixed it self over a few months.** I then asked about the PCM flash and he told me that it would cost me $180 to have that done. He said that this would not be something covered by warranty because it was a software enhancement to the vehicle. I was really bummed about the PCM flash because I live in a cold climate and I'm forced to use a stick to get the idle around 1200 RPM. I sucks just having to wait for the WTS light in -5 degree weather let alone having to fidget with a damn stick. If you have the prom flashed, its one less thing to hassle with, so I was stuck with the stick... After a few years I decided I would just pay the money for the PCM flash. There were a few other enhancements that I wanted with the latest "flash" so I called another dealer. This other dealer I speak of is "Bentenhousen" and they replaced the PCM when it went out in early 2003. I called Bentenhousen Dodge to find out the PCM version I had been given when they replaced the PCM on warranty work. They said that they did not have it on record, they would have to pull up the paperwork. The service guy at Bentenhousen inquired why I would need that information. I explained my interest in the PCM flash and what benefits I wanted from it. He said that it would be no problem and that I could schedule a visit and they'd take care of me. I asked how much it would cost and he informed me that as long as I had less than 80K on the truck it was part of my warranty. This was not what I had heard at Naperville Dodge!!! These idiots told me that it would cost $180 to flash the prom!!!! Damn those Naperville Dodge jerks!!!
Naperville Dodge also took my license plate bracket off of my truck and replaced it with their piece of crap plastic one that says Naperville Dodge. I was never asked if they could do this and by the time I had noticed it was too late to get my old one back!!!
I had, on a separate occasion, purchased brake pads from the service department which were $58 for the front set. These have been the worst pads I have ever used!!! They are dirty and they make lots of noise. They are nothing like the OEM pads which were on the truck to begin with. The only reason why I would be crazy enough to buy service parts from the dealer is because I wanted the OEM performance... I got the price, but worse performance!
Naperville Dodge almost makes me ashamed to drive a Dodge! That dealer should be shut down!!!! The dealer was confronted about these experiences and could do nothing but acknowledge the fact that it sucked.
I think that Dave Fritz should reconsider adding the "Avoid like the plague" just for for Naperville Dodge. There are too many other places to buy/service a Dodge. Do your self a favor and go somewhere else!
I purchased my truck 12/31/2001 so it went into service in 2002. The truck was made in late July of 2001. I love my Cummins and the truck has been a real pleasing experience. It has never lost it's luster and despite a couple of problems has been 100% reliable. The minor problems were made worse by the idiots at Naperville Dodge. I have not purchased a vehicle from them due to the atrocious service and crappy parts I got from them in October of 2003!!! I confronted them about this and was blown off...!!! You're better off somewhere else.
