Cummins engine had 120,000 miles. It was blowing oil out draft tube. took it to Hatfield for evaluation. A couple weeks later they called to tell us we needed a new engine (reman)for $5500.00. Dealer had removed head and said cylinders were wore out and had burnt pistons. Went to dealer to do our own inspection. When we arrived there were several Cummins short blocks in floor that had been replaced in other customers trucks. Upon inspection of our engine we found cylinders were definitely not wore out, but still had cross-hatch. Also when looking at pistons in the cylinders for the "burn" proof the mechanic showed us what was dried coolant on top of the piston. After seeing first hand their incompetence we had the truck delivered to a Cummins dealer for re-evaluation. Here the engine was reassembled and found that the seal in the turbo was bad allowing pressure in to the cranckcase which was forcing the oil out the draft tube. Cost of fix $1200.00 not $5500.00
