Sales=Don't Know, Service=Poor, Parts=Excellent, bought there=No, scv_there=Yes,
Buy_DaimlerChrysler_again=Yes,
Brought my 2001 RAM 2500 Diesel in to them for a shift hunting transmission.
After their initial diagnosis that they could not get the transmission to act
up the proceeded to throw parts at is, very expensive parts. First they told
me that the TPS was bad and that is what was causing my problems, $480 later
I still had the same problem. Also, I requested my old parts back and they "lost"
my TPS, a technician told me that they threw it into the garbage and the garbage
truck had already come. First RED flag. I brought the truck back to the dealer
with the same problem, this time the TPS was ok but the regulator was bad on
the alternator and the alternator needed to be replaced, $350. I have learned
since that the regulator is not even part of the alternator in my truck! Needless
to say the truck still had the same problem, it couldn't pick between 2nd, 3rd,
3rd lockup, 4th, or 4th lockup depending on speed. So, back to the dealer again
and I told them to fix it and I was not going to pay them a dime more. I should
mention that my dissatisfaction was made known to the management of the dealership
and their response was either pay the full bill or we will not return the truck.
What happened next floored me, they called me and said that the problem was
corrosion in the wiring harness between the cam sensor wire and the TPS wire
and that it would be another $350 for the harness plus labor to install it!!
I reminded them of my statement earlier that I was not giving them anymore money
to try things in hopes that they will work. I am not sure what they did to the
wiring harness, there was some new black tape on the loom but I picked up my
truck and didn't pay and the problem is fixed, or at least seems to be for the
moment.
It seems to me that the original $480 for the TPS should have been refunded
since they did not return the old part and that was not the problem to begin
with, the $350 for the alternator and install I am willing to accept as "buyer
beware" and I guess that I did get a new alternator out of it.
I have brought this up to the service manager and he insisted that they found
my old TPS two months later! and would be willing to return it to me (yeah RIGHT)
but all of the service was legitimate (according to him) and they would not
refund any portion of what I had paid. I left mad and I will never use their
service department again! And recommend that others do the same. As an additional
note the Parts Department at the same dealership is excellent, they have always
gotten me the parts I need quickly and at a fair price. I recommend the parts
department highly, just stay away from service!
