My 2001 Dodge Ram was dropped off to Barreth on March 24 (Friday). The check gages light, the ABS light, and the parking brake light. would not go off and truck eventually stopped running. I was called on March 27 (Mon.) and told that it was the main fusible link ($92) and ready to be picked up. I picked it up that evening. I made it approx. 3 miles and the idiot lights. came back on. I turned around and dropped it off at the dealership again. The next day (Tues.), I was told it was the rear wheel speed sensor ($152) was bad. They replaced it and said it was test driven and everything was good. I picked it up again that evening (march 28). I made it approx. 3 miles and idiot lights came back on. I turned around and dropped it off again. They called me on Wed.(march 29) and told me the rear differential needed to be rebuilt and wanted $2,200. They said the trak lok had come apart and chipped one of the teeth off of the ring gear. I told them to put it back together and fill the differential with fluid and I would come get it. I also got out of the service manager that the day prior, I paid $152 for a sensor that didn't need to be replaced. I had it towed to a nearby differential specialist. When the differential was disassembled at the shop, the mechanic at Barreth put the broken tooth off the ring gear with a portion of the casting attached back in the pumpkin. Thank god I had it towed! I guess it made them mad that I didn't spend the $2,200 and got it rebuilt locally for $1000! I called the general manager (Dan Helmsing) and told him of my experience at Barreth. He called me back about a week later. He said he had talked to the mechanic and had no idea how the metal chunk made it back into my differential. Basically I was either mistaken or a liar! The portion of metal lying in the pumpkin fit perfectly back into the ring gear. It was the only chunk missing! I was told that it must be a different part. The general manager apologized for not having a better answer for how the metal chunk got put back in ! their. I'm starting to wonder what to expect for $82/hr? It took 3 visits and a sensor changed that didn't need to be to get to the bottom of it. Was it a mechanic or a parts changer working on my vehicle for $82/hr?
Save yourself the hassle! Don't deal with the Service Dept. at Barreth! I hear Don Flier in Pacific has skilled technicians in their service dept. and managers who care about the people they serve. Guess I'll take a drive the next time I need service or to buy a new vehicle.

Sales=Good, Service=Poor, Parts=Don't Know, bought there=Yes, scv_there=Yes, Buy_DaimlerChrysler_again=Yes,
Purchased a new 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 from Robert Mesger at this dealership in January of 2003. Robert has been a great help to me in the story that follows. When I first took this truck for a test drive I noted a vibration, like a tire had a flat spot from sitting too long. I informed Robert of this and he guaranteed that they would take care of it the next day when I brought it in the next day for prep. I dropped it off and picked it up the next day and still had the trouble. Took it back again and they had replaced the wheels and tires. The trouble seemed to go away. About 5-8k miles later the trouble came back. Took it back in and this time they just replaced the tires. This time the trouble cleared for about 10k miles. Took it back again and this time I am MAD!!!! Once again new tires only this time a different brand. Finally 2 days ago I decided that 13 MPG was killing me and called Robert to talk about a Cummins. He told me to stop by. When I arrived Monday night at 5pm Robert had a brand new 2005 Quad Cab 4x4 cummins waiting for me. He let me drive it for 2 days and I just went in and signed the paper work to make it mine. Overall I would say that the sales dept is GREAT but their service dept SCARES me. This is a non-union shop and I believe it makes a difference!
