While traveling to the beach in June 2008, my 01 Ram diesel died (injection
pump failure) in an Aberdeen intersection on a Saturday afternoon. Fortunately,
my brother lived a half hour away, and he picked me up and took me to McBrayer
Dodge to arrange repair. The service dept was closed, but the sales staff was
very helpful with arranging a tow and advising me about the service department
(all while dealing with customers and trying to get ready to go home at the
end of the day).
On Monday, I talked to the service dept, and they worked me in to have the diesel
technician see what was wrong. After the injection pump was confirmed to be
dead, they ordered the parts and I continued on to the beach in one of my brother's
vehicles. Via cellphone from the beach, I kept in touch with the service dept
as they obtained a pump and repaired the truck. On the way home from the beach,
I picked up the truck, paid the bill, and continued home in it.
My brother said he always had good experiences with McBrayer's service dept,
and everyone waiting (there were many when I left the truck and when I picked
it up) had nothing bad to say about their service. I talked to the diesel technician,
and he seemed to know his stuff. He also had several diesel vehicles from a
variety of manufacturers stacked up awaiting repair, so other people appear
to trust him.

Sales=Fair, Service=Poor (Avoid assigned), Parts=Poor,
bought there=Yes, scv_there=Yes, Buy_DaimlerChrysler_again=Maybe,
In 2002 i bought myself a brand new Dodge Dakota from McBrayer Dodge in Aberdeen,
NC as a present to myself for graduating for the Firefighter Academy and getting
all my certifications. I bought the truck out right in April that year. Later
that year in July I noticed that there was a squeaking noise coming from the
front of the truck when going over bumps or rough road and the handling got
real loose. I took the truck to The dealership to get checked out, They told
me that the sway bar link on the passenger side had broke loose and they replaced
it under the factory warranty. I later in 2003 had a problem with gas mileage.
When i took it to have it looked at they told me that was NORMAL. I didn't know
that A 3.9L V6 was build to get 6 miles per gallon! The dealership told me they
would look it over. They came back in with an old round air filter that was
back and looked like it was dunked in a puddle of mud. Now am not a rocket scientist
but i know that my truck doesn't have a round filter in fact it is rectangular,
much like all new vehicles have. After showing me this the representative began
to tell me that i must have gone into to deep of a mud puddle and clogged my
filter up and this was his reason for my bad gas mileage. My truck by the way
is only two-wheel drive and even if I did go through a mud puddle and if the
filter was round it is still enclosed in this very large box on the passenger
side front fender. I kept telling the rep not to pull my strings because i knew
more than he thought. When i confronted him with what i knew and what he was
trying to pull he quickly told me that i could pick up my truck on the side
of the building. I came to find out that he just drove it around the side and
never lifted the hood because the dusty hood had no signs of anyone even touching
any part of it. My next encounter wasn't for a while. In January 2004 I was
at work and it started sleeting really bad and we had to leave work early. My
buddy and I set out to get home in my truck when half way down the road the
truck lost all power steering and the warning lights lit up. When i got off
the road i found that my balancer had fallen off and the belt had broken. After
walking back to work i got the tow truck to take it to the dealership. When
I got there they said it would be a week and a half before they could fix it
and they would call me when they started work on my truck. Two weeks later I
had not heard from them so I called them and was told that they were waiting
for me to approve the work that had to be done. I went down and they told me
that it would take another week to get the parts in, but they would call to
let me know when it would be done once the parts came in. A week later they
actually called me in and told me that when the balancer came loose the key
that keeps it from turning went into the timing chain and tore it up and it
also brake the crankshaft and that they needed more parts to fix it and it could
be another two weeks before they got them in. At this point i really had no
choice because i need my truck. Finally after a month and a half later i got
my truck back, but something else was now really wrong with it.
Now the transmission would not stay in third gear and made a really loud grinding
noise and a noticeable rattle at idle. It went back. They told me that the transmission
was trash and needed to be replaced. I told them to go ahead and order the transmission
and to call me when it came in because i needed my truck. They called me and
set the appointment and got the truck in and fixed the truck, then wanted me
to pay a deposit on the warranty of 120.00 that I had just paid to fix the truck
before. I refused because I told them if there was anything wrong it was do
to their lack of attention to detail and messed up while removing it to replace
the crankshaft. They told me that they did not have to touch the transmission
to replace the crankshaft. Again i am not a rocket scientist but i told him
i knew better and i was still not paying.
After this they called my wife and got her to come pay the money and get the
truck without my knowledge. With that all done one week later the computer that
controls the engine functions quit working. By this time my factory warranty
was long out and i was forced to pay for repairs. Also at this time I had also
received a recall on the wiring harness that goes through the firewall. When
i brought this to their attention they said they would take care of it but never
did. After that i had my entire dash panel quit working gauges and all. During
the time it happened I received a speeding ticket because my gauges did not
work. I called the dealer to see if they had taken care of the recall and they
ensure me that it was. Upon going on the website for dodge owners I found that
it was still incomplete. I took it in and told them to fix the problem and i
would be back in two days to pick it up or we were going to the better business
bureau, and to fix the recall. I had to pay at this time 200.00+ dollars to
fix the problem and upon going back to the website the recall was still incomplete.
Now here the last monday of Feb. 2005 my front ball joints fell apart and my
truck hit the ground. At this time there is a recall out for this year model
truck and the ball-joints but when talking to the dealership it was only for
four-wheel drive trucks. i told them that i was going to court for lemon law
and i was not paying for anything. They actually managed to find out that the
warranty actually cover this and it was fixed free of charge and they also told
me that i had not informed them of the recall on my truck with the wiring harness
but they had fixed it too. I am now filing this vehicle with the lemon laws
to try to get some sort of justice. I was ripped off and they stole my money
and i am Furious!!! It is going to court!!
this site is a good thing and that dealer should be CLOSED!!!!

Sales=Avoid, Service=Avoid, bought there=Yes, scv_there=Yes,
I bought a 2001 Ram 1500 Quad Cab from McBrayer in August 2002. It was used
but the salesman said it had passed the Dodge check point inspection and was
in really good shape. The salesman informed me that it was traded for a 2500
because of towing needs. In October of 2002 the transmission was out in the
truck and I was without a ride for three days. No offer of rental no nothing
just "it is a warranty issue" and we will fix it. After I picked the
truck up they made me pay for a thirty thousand mile service on the transmission
at my next oil change to insure the transmission was in good shape. I did that
and in June 2003 the transmission was leaking fluid, I returned the truck to
McBrayer and the transmission was out again, same problem. The service tech
said it could take months to find the part and get the truck fixed, until I
called the dodge complaint hotline. When I asked the dealership for the complaint
number they gave me the wrong number but I found the correct number. While I
was on the phone with dodge, the customer service person called McBrayer and
all of a sudden they found the part. The McBrayer tech said he would call me
when the part came in, one week later I had to call him to set up an appointment.
The parts department told me that McBrayer had to get the part aftermarket but
the service tech said it was not aftermarket. While I was complaining about
the treatment I received the parts man told me to go buy a FORD. Stay away from
the "shadetree mechanics" at McBrayer Dodge in Aberdeen NC. The salesman
that sold me the truck has made no attempt to contact me at all and the truck
is still under factory warranty.
