I took my 1997 Dodge Dakota to D'Amico's for a Tune Up this past Spring and when I asked what had been done they told me everything except changing the spark plugs. When I asked why they weren't changed, I was advised they didn't need it because they last longer than the older style. OK.... no problem, I trusted the service people with that until 2 weeks ago when the truck started to skip and buck when it was cold so I took the truck in and had D'Amico's put it on the computer and check it out. Results: "no problem"! Three days later I'm driving to work and the "check engine" light comes on.
I've taken the truck to another reputable garage locally and when I described the problem to the mechanic he asked to look under the hood and asked what I had done at D'Amico's and I told him it was tuned up this Spring and he asked if the plug wires had been replaced or the distributor cap or the rotor..... I couldn't tell him for sure and then he showed me the plug wires with the date of 1/97 on them. He told me that it was required to put the date on the parts to keep tract of repairs.
After about an hour of discussion, I asked the mechanic to tune it up and replace everything and he did for a cost of $253.89 on top of the cost at D'Amico's of $320.00, for what I thought was already done. I got a Royal Screwing and I'll never go back to D'Amico's for any other work and when the Dakota dies I'll be buying a new Ford!!
I am spreading the word that the service work at D'Amico's is "LESS" than desirable and anyone considering taking anything there should check elsewhere for a more trustworthy service department. It's sad when you can't trust a Dealership or its service department for honesty and integrity.
