I had my 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 Double Cab Truck towed to Lithia Dodge on September
21, 2005. It had quit running...sounded like it didn't have enough compression......has
almost 49,000 miles on it. I called the service guy Rob the next day and he
first told me that it had to be
scanned.....he couldn't tell me if it was covered on my extended warranty or
not. I told him to please check it out.....next day I called and he informed
me that the 7th cylinder did not have any compression and that he had to have
the valve pulled out but still could not say if it
would be covered under the extended warranty. I asked him why, and he told me
that the last truck that came in like mine had been driven into a pond. I told
him that my truck had not been driven into a pond....he said..........that's
what the last guy told me!!!!!!!!!!! Well I certainly
did not like the insinuation he was directing at me. I called a couple days
later and my truck had not been worked on to find out what the problem was.
I told Rob that I was having to drive my classic car and he told me to "go
get a rental". I decided that I was not going to get any where with this
person and decided when this was all over I was going to contact the management
of Lithia.
On Wednesday October 5th Rob called me in the afternoon and told me that my
valve spring was broken in the 7th cylinder and that I could go get a rental
car and Lithia would pay for a rental car for 5 days. I went to the rental car
place on Thursday Oct 6 at 1:00 and was given a Jeep Liberty for a rental car..........the
guys at Enterprise Rental GP were very nice!!! On Friday October 7th around
1:00 Rob calls me from Lithia to tell me that my truck was ready, and to return
the rental car first before I picked up my truck at 5:30..............this was
a great imposition as I am a care giver and I was 50 minutes away from GP and
I stayed with my Alzheimer's patient until 6:30 pm on Fridays...........this
was a great imposition to have to leave 2 hours early from my patient's home.......also
costing me 2 hours of wages.......first of all to insinuate I had driven my
truck into a pond, second of all not to give me a rental car when I first brought
my truck in. I am trading my truck in for a chevy this next month. I do not
want to deal with Lithia's service department in future repairs.

Sales=Fair, Service=Good, Parts=Good, bought there=Yes, scv_there=Yes,
Buy_DaimlerChrysler_again=Maybe,
I was going to but from Dave Smith in Idaho and get a really good deal. Lithia
gave me the dog and pony act that they couldn't compete with Dave Smith BUT....
I should buy from Lithia because they are "local" and I would be "keeping
the money in our town".. That is garbage. Lithia is a very large Company
in several states. I knew what I could get in Idaho and knew how much it would
cost to go there, pick up my truck, and drive it the 800 miles back home. I
figured that into the price. I did "think I made a good deal until i got
home and went over every paper with a fine tooth comb. I asked to purchase the
best warranty that would extend my bumper to bumper warranty to 7 years/100,000
miles. I have had the Chrysler warranty before and it is a very good warranty.
That is what I was led to believe I had bought..WRONG! I had bought some warranty
that was impossible to get a hold of after business hours and not on weekends.
I made a trial call to these guys and said i had their warranty and needed service.
They said, and I quote..Dude, you need to get someone to like tow your truck
to a Dodge dealer and get them to find out what is wrong with your truck. Before
they can do anything to it, you need to call back and get an approval on the
repair, pay for the repair, and then submit the paperwork to us and we will
again evaluate the claim. If we feel that we need to pay, you should get a check
in 4 to 6 weeks on what "we" feel the repair was worth.. Also I mentioned,
what do I do about a hotel? they said to look in the phone book and good luck
on finding one. After that, I went back to lithia and asked that my warranty
be changed to the Chrysler Warranty. They did so but wasn't too happy about
that. I still have yet to receive any warranty card from Chrysler regarding
the warranty and its been a month. I ran into the finance person and he said
that they were "upset" because the Chrysler warranty was $100 more
than the other one. I didn't offer a check as I know there is a BIG mark up
in the aftermarket warranties. I was also not happy that it took 2 salesmen
to make my deal. One thing I hate is being "turned" when the deal
is about 4 hours into deep negotiations. I still had to sit while the 2nd guy
went to submit my "ridiculous offer" to the sales manager behind the
one way glass. Also, as for the truck, i also knew MORE about it than both salesmen.
Another thing about the first warranty, the one that wasn't Chrysler. I did
a web search and found that I could have bought the same exact warranty on the
internet at anytime within the factory warranty for 1/2 of what Lithia had charged
me.
What I did not like was the attitude of "we are loosing money selling this
truck to you" Mr. Johnson. Every time that issue came up I got up out of
my chair and said I would buy the same truck in Idaho. Then I was asked to sit
back down and they would "see what they could do". I have a friend
that wants the same basic Cummins I bought and referred them to him and also
him to them. He still has yet to make any deal, yet they told me they had in
stock the EXACT truck and color that he wanted. My guess is that Lithia isn't
that "Hungry" yet because there are way too many people that go in
and look at the sticker and sit down and say Ill buy it if you can get my payments
to what "I can afford" Heck, You can pay the $5k above sticker that
most dealers charge and still get the "right" payment if they stretch
it out over 10 years! As for my deal, I feel I got a somewhat "good deal"
but not what I would call a killer deal. I also feel I earned every cent I got
off the "asking price" with all the crap I had to go through to get
it. For the record, My deal was a CASH deal. I might also add, that since I
was in a old pair of levis, white t-shirt and tennis shoes, they still wouldn't
prep the truck for delivery until I produced a check from my bank, which happened
to be just next door. The question, would I buy from them again? I doubt it.
It just was too much work to get the deal that I was OK with.
Do your homework before you even think of dealing on anything at Lithia. Also,
if you have a trade, you WILL loose. You will be far ahead to sell it in the
paper for under wholesale blue book than giving it as a trade. They don't want
it.

Sales=Avoid, Service=Fair,
Went to this Dealership 4 times to buy a new 2003 quad cab ram. They never sold
me on the vehicle! I knew more than the sales people. How can Lithia of Grants
Pass sell vehicles if they don't know their vehicles. I wanted to pay cash and
they couldn't come up with a firm price. I wanted to buy that day with cash
and I left scratching my head saying...they had the deal, but they couldn't
sell me or get me excited about the vehicle.
