Sales=Don't Know, Service=Poor, Parts=Don't Know, bought there=No, scv_there=Yes,
Buy_DaimlerChrysler_again=No,
I had a simple ignition lock cylinder replaced. After it was replaced, the steering
wheel started to get looser and looser. It was pretty damn clear they didn't
take it for a test drive. I had already spent an extra day and taken an lost
an extra day of work because of the initial problem. I drove very carefully
home. Once home I saw how loose it was and got it to my local Chrysler Jeep
asap. It sat for a day before they got to it. They said a clip ring needed to
be re secured. Problem fixed, except it cost an extra $196.10.
I called Owl to tell them about the case and find out what they had to say.
Brian, the service manager who was who my wife dealt with said they didn't remove
the steering wheel and said that if they test drove it they only went a block
or so. I told him that this was a complaint call and that I was not happy with
the safety failure both for the risk of driving a couple kids and the extra
expense to have some clip ring put back.
He told me that it must have been due to a previous "servicing or replacement
of my steering column while it was under warranty". I didn't know what
he was talking about. He said there was a record of exactly that. I told him
I had never had my steering column replaced and if there was any work on it,
it had happened long ago -- not any time recently -- and certainly not anything
noticeable compared with having the wheel feel like it's falling off just a
half hour after driving it from their dealership. Brian said that they didn't
remove the steering wheel and just popped out the lock and put another one in.
Brian kept to his claim that it was preexisting problem and that the steering
wheel was like that (as if it was safe to use). But it was more clear that he
knew the wheel was loose. Maybe it's some half-truth or maybe it's just a full
lie. But it's clear it was very unsafe to drive.
I called my local Chrysler-Jeep place where I get all my servicing done and
asked what this guy had been talking about. They said that yes, back almost
two years ago I had reported a "clicking in the steering column" and
they had done some service on it. They'd look into exactly what that may have
been. However, it was nearly TWO YEARS prior.
So, I'm pretty unhappy with the extra time and extra cost. But I'm most unhappy
with risking lives in a car with a steering wheel that is unsafe when it could
have been avoided. And getting no acknowledgement that Owl Chrysler-Jeep should
have fixed it or at least reported it is a bit maddening. One dealership says
it isn't safe to drive. The other knows about it, but doesn't even feel it's
worth mentioning.

Sales=Good, Service=Poor,
The used car dealership is rarely open. It seems to be closed whenever I want
to look at a car.
