Models: All B-D-N Trucks Equipped With Manual Transmission
Symptoms:
Clutch excessive (infinite) spin time, clutch chatter, failed transmission drive pinions and pilot bushings, and/or noise and vibration complaints may be caused by misinstallation of the clutch housing to block struts. This misinstallation of the struts can distort the housing bore beyond specifications.
Repair:
This procedure involves loosening, repositioning, and tightening the housing and struts.
1. Loosen clutch housing strut-to-engine block fasteners.
2. Install clutch housing to rear of engine block and tighten all housing/block fasteners as follows: 3/8" bolts to 30 lb. ft. (41 N.m) 7/16" bolts to 50 lb. ft. (68 N.m) 12mm bolts to 70 lb. ft. (95 N.m)
3. Tighten strut to clutch housing fasteners, using above listed torques.
4. Tighten strut to engine block fasteners, using above listed torques.
