Models: 1989 AD Ram Pickup Equipped With Cummins Diesel and Automatic Transmission
Symptom/Condition:
Some 1989 Dodge pickups equipped with the Cummins diesel engine and automatic transmission built before MDH 02-08-89 may exhibit a knocking or grinding noise at the rear of the engine. In some extreme cases, the noise may be accompanied with a no drive condition. This condition is the result of cracking of the drive plate in the area of crankshaft flange.
Diagnosis:
Start engine. Using a stethoscope, pinpoint noise location by listening at the rear of the engine and torque converter housing. If the noise is located in the torque converter housing area, perform the following repair procedure.
Parts Required:

1 Crankshaft Bolt Backing Plate PN 04429753

5. Remove the torque converter from the transmission.
6. Install the new torque converter, PN 53008136.
