Models: 1991 AD Trucks With Cummins 5.9L Diesel
Symptom/Condition:
Vehicles equipped with a diesel engine may exhibit a fan belt chirp and or squeal. This condition is caused by excessive paint in the grooves of the water pump and crankshaft pulleys, allowing the drive belt to slip. Vehicles built between MDH 10-15-XX (October 15, 1990) and MDH 03-15-XX (March 15, 1991) may exhibit this condition.

Repair Procedure:
This procedure involves the removal of paint from the water pump and crankshaft pulleys and replacement of the drive belt.
1. Remove the serpentine drive belt as described in the 1991 Rear Wheel Drive Truck Service Manual, publication number 81-370-1108.
2. Using a wire brush and a solvent such as Mopar Super Kleen (PN 4318015) or equivalent, remove the paint from the grooves of the water pump and crank shaft pulleys.
3. Remove all residue from the pulley grooves using Mopar Brake Parts Cleaner (PN 4318037) or equivalent residue free solvent.
4. Wipe the pulley grooves off using a clean shop towel and install a new serpentine drive belt as described in the service manual.
