Discussion:
When diagnosing a vehicle with an oil leak, it is important to correctly identify the source of the leak. Oil leaks from the distributor are often misdiagnosed as a leak from an intake manifold seal, oil pan or gasket, or rear crankshaft oil seal. If the source of the leak is determined to be the distributor, and oil can be found inside of the distributor, it should be replaced. A new distributor is available that incorporates an internal shaft oil seal to prevent oil from leaking into the distributor.
New distributor Assembly Parts Numbers:
ENGINE APPLICATION PART NUMBER
3.9 LITER 56026743
5.2 LITER 56026744
For additional information on locating oil leaks, refer to the April 1991 Master Tech Release.
