Power mirror vibrates or images are blurred while driving.
Technical Service Bulletin 08-64-94 dated Nov. 4, 1994 provides a revised power mirror to address vibration or blurred images on Dodge Ram Trucks. It has been identified that installation of aftermarket bugscreen deflectors can have an adverse effect on mirror vibration as well as other components.
The Dodge Ram Truck is a highly developed aerodynamic design to minimize wind drag and noise, improve ride and increased fuel economy. Current bugscreen deflectors are designed to disrupt the air flow in front of the vehicle to keep the windshield clear of bugs and debris (See figures below).
Depending on how this airflow is deflected, a number of potential undesirable side effects can occur, such as:
1. Test drive at freeway speeds to determine if the drivers outside power mirror vibrates or the images are blurred.
2. Remove the bugscreen deflector
3. Test drive again to observe if the vibration is gone. If still present replace the mirrors as outlined in TSB 08-64-94.
WARNING: Installing bugscreen deflectors may cause mirror shake that will not be resolved by further mirror replacements.
A warning label will now be installed on all Mopar Bugscreen Deflectors, P/N 82401090, that are sold. An example of that label is provided below.
AIR SHIELDS BY DESIGN DISRUPT THE AIR FLOW OVER THE HOOD AND FENDERS. THIS AIR FLOW DISRUPTION CAN LEAD TO MIRROR AND ANTENNA SHAKE. THIS IS A NORMAL CONDITION AND WILL NOT BE RESOLVED BY REPLACING THE MIRRORS OR ANTENNA.
