Date: Aug. 18, 1995

Models: 1995 (BR) Ram Truck

NOTE: THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH THE 8.0L V10 ENGINE.

Discussion:

Noise(s) nay be created when high crankcase vacuum is present. This causes air to rush past the rear crankcase seal lip creating the different noises. To verify that vacuum at the crankshaft seal causes the noise, remove the oil fill cap and the noise will go away.

The cause(s) of the excess crankcase vacuum should be diagnosed and repaired. Possible causes of excess crankcase vacuum are plugged air filter, pinched vent tubes, misaligned intake manifold gasket or the crankcase ventilation inlet tube is pinched.

NOTE:   BECAUSE OF THE LOCATION OF THE NOISE, IT MAY MISLEAD REPAIR ATTEMPTS TO THE REAR RETAINER AND REAR CRANKSHAFT SEAL AREA. DO NOT REMOVE THE REAR RETAINER AND GRIND THE TABS. GRINDING THE TABS MAY RESULT IN SEAL MISALIGNMENT AND EVENTUAL OIL LEAKS. DO NOT REPLACE, THE CRANKSHAFT SEAL AS THE SEAL IS OPERATING AS DESIGNED.
