NOTE: THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A STANDARD DUTY OF HEAVY DUTY NV4500 MANUAL TRANSMISSION.
Discussion:
When disassembling the NV4500 manual transmission, it is necessary to replace the 5th gear mainshaft nut (shown in illustration below). Before installing the nut, Mopar lock & Seal, P/N 4318032, should be applied to the threads to ensure the security of the nut. Under no circumstances should the original nut be reused. The 5th gear mainshaft nut has a special adhesive patch that is effective for original installation only. If a new nut is not used, loosening of the nut will occur resulting in transmission damage.
The mainshaft nut for the standard duty manual transmission used with 5.2L and 5.9L V8 engine is P/N 4637802. The mainshaft nut for the heavy duty manual transmission used in the 8.0L and Cummins Diesel engine is P/N 4741553.
