Revised injection Pump Timing Specifications

NOTE:   THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH THE 5.9L CUMMINS DIESEL ENGINE (CPL 2022 and CPL 2023) ONLY.

Discussion:

The injection pump to engine timing on the affected vehicles (CPL 2022 and 2023) has been advanced by one degree. The following Fuel Injection Pump Timing Specifications is to be utilized when checking or performing injection pump timing procedure's. The timing specification listed is nominal and has a tolerance of +/- 1 degree.

NOTE: THE FOLLOWING STEPS MUST IMPLEMENTED TO BE IN COMPLIANCE WITH EMISSION LAWS.

Once this procedure has been performed (by a Chrysler or Bosch Dealer), the engine data plate MUST be updated to identify the revised NOMINAL timing specification and correct CPL number. The old timing specification and CPL number should be crossed out and the new specification and CPL number are to be stamped on the engine data plate ("Timing T.D.C.") using a number stamp or can be etched by an etching tool.

CPL 2022 engines should be stamped CPL 2174 and 14.0 deg BTDC
CPL 2023 engines should be stamped CPL 2175 and 13.5 deg BTDC

In addition, type the necessary information on the Authorized Modification Label and attach the label near the VECI Label.

New production engines will carry revised CPL numbers (2174, 2175, or 1863) and will not be required to have the revised specification stamped onto the engine data plate when a injection pump timing procedure is performed.
