THIS BULLETIN SUPERSEDES TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 02-03-97, DATED MAY 9,1997.
Models: 1994 - 1997 (BR) Ram Trucks
NOTE: THIS BULLETIN PERTAINS TO 1500 SERIES RAM TRUCKS RATED AT 6400 GVW AND 2500 SERIES RAM TRUCKS RATED AT 8800 GVW.
Symptoms:
Rear of the vehicle sits too low (rear curb height too low) when the vehicle is loaded to maximum GVW but has a normal curb height when unloaded.
Discussion:
Rear leaf springs and shock absorbers are now available to be able to increase the curb height of the rear of the vehicle when the vehicle is loaded to its maximum GVW. The rear leaf spring and shock absorber changes are intended for customers who operate their vehicle continuously at or near maximum GVW and are not intended for customers who periodically operate their vehicle near maximum GVW.
When these rear leaf spring and shock absorber assemblies are installed on the vehicle, the vehicle ride quality will be somewhat degraded. Also, the changing of the rear leaf spring and shock absorber assemblies do not automatically increase the vehicle to a higher GVW rating.
This bulletin provides the specific part numbers for each of the specified Ram Truck applications.
NOTE: IF THE CUSTOMER HAS THE "CAMPER SPECIAL PACKAGE (SALES CODE AHJ), AND IS REQUESTING THE SPRING AND SHOCK ABSORBER PACKAGE TO BE INSTALLED, THE AUXILIARY SPRINGS MUST BE REMOVED FROM THE VEHICLE IN EXCHANGE FOR THE HEAVY DUTY LEAF SPRINGS. IF THEY ARE NOT REMOVED, CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS OF "AUXILIARY SPRING SLAP" WILL OCCUR.
