Models: 1998 (BR/BE) Ram Truck
Symptoms:
The ash receiver lamp, when illuminated, may change from a blue-green illumination to a bright white illumination. This change will occur over a long period of time of continuous use. The ash receiver lamp is illuminated anytime the ignition key is in the RUN position.
Diagnosis:
Turn the ignition key to the RUN position. View the ash receiver lamp for a bright white illumination. If the ash receiver lamp illumination is bright white, perform the following Repair Procedure.

Repair:
This bulletin involves replacing the ash receiver lamp and housing with revised parts.
WARNING: REFER TO THE 1998 RAM TRUCK SERVICE MANUAL (PUBLICATION NO. 81-370-8108) GROUP 8M, FOR INFORMATION REGARDING PROPER AIRBAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS WHEN SERVICING ANY COMPONENTS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL.
1. Record the radio station presets.
2. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable. On vehicles equipped with the 5.9L Cummins diesel engine, both battery negative cables must be disconnected and isolated.
3. Place electrical or masking tape on the instrument panel bezel above the ash receiver flame shield mounting screws to help prevent marring of the bezel.
4. Open the ash receiver. From the open position, close the ash receiver slightly and pull it straight out from the pivot pins in the lower instrument panel.
5. Remove the three screws that secure the flame shield to the lower instrument panel (Figure 1).
6. Pull the flame shield away from the lower instrument panel far enough to disengage the two retaining tabs on the top, then lower the shield far enough to access the ash receiver lamp housing and bulb.
7. Disengage the ash receiver lamp and housing retaining clip from the mounting hole in the flame shield then, disconnect the ash receiver lamp.
8. Install the new ash receiver bulb, p/n L0000161, and ash receiver lamp housing, p/n 05269360, onto the mounting hole of the flame shield.
9. Install the flame shield onto the lower instrument panel and secure it with the three screws. Torque the screws to 2.2 Nm (20 in. lbs).
10. Remove the tape from the instrument panel bezel.
11. Install the ash receiver.
12. Connect the battery negative cable(s).
13. Program the radio station presets recorded in step 1 and set the clock.
