Moaning Noise Coming From The Accessory Drive

Models: 94-97 BR with V-10 and AC and built before 3/10/97

NOTE: THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO RAM TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH AN 8.OL (V- 10) ENGINE AND AIR CONDITIONING BUILT BEFORE MARCH 30,1997 (MDH 033OXX).

Symptom/Condition: a "moaning " noise from the accessory drive system with engine at about 2400 RPM.  If heard over 2600 and under 2200 do not perform TSB - diagnose further.

Diagnosis:

Start the engine and raise the engine speed to 2200 - 2600 rpm. If a moaning noise is coming from the accessory drive system, perform the following Repair Procedure. Further diagnosis will be required if a moaning noise occurs at engine speeds above or below the 2200 - 2600 engine rpm range.

1   53010013AB   Brace, Generator

Repair:

This bulletin involves replacing the generator brace with a revised part.

1.    Remove the two bolts that secure the generator brace to the generator and intake manifold.

2.    Remove the generator brace and discard the brace.

3.    Remove the two right side (passenger side) air conditioning compressor bolts.

4.    Install the revised generator brace, pln 53010013AB, onto the generator, intake manifold, and air conditioning compressor. Install the four attaching bolts and tighten the bolts to 20 ft. lbs (27 Nm).

NOTE: MAKE SURE THE GENERATOR GROUND STRAP IS PROPERLY SECURED TO THE GENERATOR BRACE ATTACHING BOLT.
