THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH THE 5.2L ENGINE AND FACTORY INSTALLED COMPRESSED NATURAL GAS (CNG) FUEL SYSTEM ONLY.

Symptoms:

Affected vehicles may exhibit a "lack of power during acceleration and/or "long cranking time" complaint in ambient temperatures less than 300F. With the fuel level in the fuel tank less than one quarter (1/4) of a tank.

Diagnosis:

NOTE: IT IS IMPORTANT TO HAVE AMBIENT AND FUEL TEMPERATURES LESS THAN 30"F. IN ORDER TO PROPERLY DIAGNOSE THIS CONDITION. ALSO, THIS CONDITION MAY IMPROVE AS ENGINE TEMPERATURES INCREASE. ALL DIAGNOSIS SHOULD BE PERFORMED AT INITIAL ENGINE START-UP.

Allow the vehicle to stabilize to a temperature of less than 300F. Connect the DRS III to the Data Link Connector (DLC). Locate the Fuel Pressure Sensor information under the Sensor category on the DRB Ill. Monitor the fuel pressure during vehicle launch and acceleration. Normal pressure should remain at approximately 120 p.s.i. If the pressure drops below 100 p.s.i. during launch or acceleration, perform the following Repair Procedure.

Repair:

This bulletin involves replacing the fuel pressure regulator with a revised regulator.

Refer to the appropriate Service Manual CNG Supplement, Group 14, for proper procedures on fuel pressure regulator removal and installation.  

NOTE: 1992 THROUGH 1994 MODEL YEAR VEHICLES REQUIRE HIGH- PRESSURE FUEL SHUT-OFF SOLENOID JUMPER HARNESS (PIN 04897950AA) TO BE INSTALLED WHEN INSTALLING REVISED FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR PIN 66022108. THE HARNESS SHOULD BE CONNECTED TO THE EXISTING HIGH-PRESSURE FUEL SHUT-OFF HARNESS, THEN CONNECTED TO THE HIGH-PRESSURE FUEL SHUT-OFF SOLENOID ON THE NEW FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR.
