Driver's side wiper blade contacts A-pillar.

Symptoms:

Driver side wiper blade contacts A-pillar or a popping sound can be heard when the wiper blade reaches full upper wiper position (farthest left) during high speed wiper operation.

Diagnosis:

Operate wipers at high speed with a wet windshield and listen for a popping or clicking noise. If the driver's side wiper blade makes the noise, perform the repair.

NOTE:  IT MAY BE NECESSARY TO DRIVE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS TO DUPLICATE THE COMPLAINT.

Repair:

Replace the wiper blades with a blade that has a revised air deflector. 

1. Turn the wiper switch to the low speed position, then turn the ignition switch to the on position.  By turning the ignition switch to the ON and OFF positions, cycle the wiper blades to a convenient working location on the windshield.
2. Lift the wiper arm to raise the wiper blade and element off the windshield glass.
3. Push the release tab under the arm lip and slide the blade away from the tip towards the pivot end of the arm (figure 1).
4. Slide the new blade's retainer into the U-shaped formation on the tip of the wiper arm until the release tab snaps into its locked position.
5. Repeat for the passenger's side wiper.
