NOTE: THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH THE NV3500 MANUAL TRANSMISSION BUILT BEFORE DECEMBER 21,1998 (MDH1221XX) (INCLUDES RAM TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH THE 3.9L or 5.2L AND DAKOTAS EQUIPPED WITH THE 5.2L).
THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO TRANSMISSIONS BUILT BEFORE DECEMBER 1, 1998. NV3500 MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS ARE EQUIPPED WITH AN IDENTIFICATION TAG THAT IDENTIFIES THE BUILD DATE OF THE TRANSMISSION. THE TAG IS LOCATED ON THE TOP FRONT HALF OF THE TRANSMISSION CASE (DATE CODE 3308 OR LOWER)
Discussion:
When diagnosing the root cause on the subject model vehicles for a transmission that is difficult to shift into gear, grinds when shifting into gear, and/or inadvertently pops out of first gear, it is important to verify that the transmission was built with the correct 1-2 shift fork. Several NV3500 manual transmissions may have been built with the wrong 1-2 shift fork. To verify if the 1-2 shift fork in the transmission is the correct shift fork, compare the 1-2 shift fork in the transmission with the Figures on the next page showing features of the correct and incorrect shift fork.
If it is determined the wrong 1-2 shift fork is installed into the transmission, replace the 1-2 shift fork with p/n 04886077AA
