NOTE: THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO ALL 2000 AND 2001 (BE/BR) RAM TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH A 5.2L, 5.9L, OR 8.0L ENGINE AND CALIBRATION LEVEL PRIOR TO (LESS OR LOWER THAN) THOSE LISTED IN THE OVERVIEW ABOVE "EXCEPT 3500 5.9L CALIFORNIA CAB CHASIS".

NOTE: THIS BULLETIN 1S BEING PROVIDED IN ADVANCE. THE MDS2 MUST BE OPERATING WITH CIS/ISIS CD2108 OR HIGHER, AVAILABLE May 27, 2002.

Discussion:
This bulletin involves selectively erasing and reprogramming the JTEC Powertrain Control Module (PCM) with new software (00Cal19, 01Cal14, 01Cal18)

Symptom/Condition:
Some vehicles may exhibit one or more of the following performance conditons:
1. Perceived lack of power in third gear due to converter Lock-up iIn 3rd gear. This reprogramming eliminates 3rd gear look up.
2. Surge after lock-up (40-45 m.p.h.) in 4th gear. This reprogramming raises torque converter lock-up speed to 52 m.p.h.
3. Transmission does not upshift from 3rd gear after a 4/3 downshift. (Most often noticed when cruise control is engaged.)

Parts Required:

1    04669020       Label, Authorized Software Update
1    04275086AB  Label   Authorized Modification

Equipment Required:

CH6000             Scan Tool   (DRB III)
CH7035             General Purpose Interface Bus Cable (GPIB)
CH7000/7001    J1962 Cable
                          MDS2 (Mopar Diagnostic System)

Repair Procedure:

1.    Flash the controller using the MDS2 (Mopar Diagnostic System) and DRBIII.

NOTE: DUE TO THE PCM REPROGRAMMING PROCEDURE, A DTC MAY BE SET IN OTHER MODULES (EATX, BCM, MIC, SKIM, ETC.) WITHIN THE VEHICLE, IF SO EQUIPPED. SOME DTC'S MAY CAUSE THE MIL TO ILLUMINATE. ALL DTC'S RELATE TO A LOSS OF COMMUNICATIONS WITH THE MODULE THAT IS BEING REPROGRAMMED. CHECK ALL MODULES, RECORD THE FAULTS, AND ERASE THESE FAULTS PRIOR TO RETURNING THE VEHICLE TO THE CUSTOMER. ERASE ANY FAULTS IN THE PCM ONLY AFTER ALL OTHER MODULES HAVE HAD THEIR FAULTS ERASED.

NOTE: THE FOLLOWING STEPS ARE REQUIRED BY LAW.
2.    Type the necessary information on the "Authorized Software Update Label" p/n 04669020 (Figure 1). Attach the label to the PCM and cover the label with the clear plastic overlay.

 3.  Type or print the following information on the "Authorized Modification Label" P/N 04275086AB and attach the label near the VECI label (Fig 2).

Policy:    Reimbursable within the provisions of the warranty.

Time Allowance:
Labor Operation No:  08-19-40-97 (Reprogram PCM) ...................................0.5 Hrs.

Failure Code:  FM - Flash Module
