Rear Window Water Leaks

Overview:
This bulletin involves resealing the rear window from the inside of the vehicle.

Symptom/Condition:
Water leaks from the rear window (back Light).

Diagnosis:
Water test the rear window area, If leaks are present at the rear window, perform the Repair Procedure, The design of the rear window surround/seal fits very closely to the window opening. This leaves virtually no room to apply sealer to the seal from the outside of the vehicle. It water leaks are present at the rear window (either fixed or sliding), sealing will have to be done from the inside. This will require removal of "A, B and C" pillar trim Removal of the visors, coat hangers and all equipment which attaches through the headliner. Dropping the headliner down far enough to gain sufficient clearance to the rear window opening and sealing the opening with RTV sealer.

Repair Procedure:  \

1.    Remove the "A. B and C" pillar trim if equipped.

2.    Remove the visors, coat hooks and any other equipment which fastens through the headliner.

3.    Drop the headliner down and disconnect any wire harnesses that are present.

4.    Slide the headliner down and forward as far as possible.

5.    Apply a sufficient bead of Mopar RTV, p/n 04318088 or equivalent, to top and sides of the rear window opening. It is not generally necessary to seal the bottom of the opening.

6.    Test for leaks apply additional sealer if more leaks are found.

7.    Position the headliner in place, connect the wire harnesses making sure that all of the wire harnesses are routed properly so that no wires are not pinched.

8.    Install all of the parts removed earlier. Tighten the seat belt turning loops to 40 Nm (29 ft. lbs.).
