NOTE: This bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with a 42RLE transmission
(sales
code DG6).
Symptom/Condition:
The vehicle operator may experience a low torque condition from the vehicle
powertrain
that may reduce the capability of the vehicle to ascend certain grades/hills
when the
transmission is in reverse gear (while backing up).
The customer may experience a Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) illumination.
Further
diagnosis may determine that the MIL is due to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC)
P1713 -
Restricted Manual Valve In T2 Range, or by DTC P1776 - Solenoid Switch Valve
Latched
In LR Position. The customer may not have experienced any driveability conditions
prior to
the MIL illumination.
Diagnosis:
Using a Scan Tool (DRBIII® or StarSCAN®) with the appropriate
Diagnostic Procedures
Manual, verify all engine systems are functioning as designed. If DTCs are present
record
them on the repair order and repair as necessary before proceeding further with
this
bulletin.
If the vehicle operator describes or experiences the Symptom/Condition, perform
the
Repair Procedure.
NOTE: There are four separate Repair Procedures. Repair Procedure A or B are
for
domestic or international market vehicles where the DRBIII® will be used
to
reprogram/flash the vehicle controller. Repair Procedure C or D are for
domestic or international market vehicles where the StarSCAN® will be used
to reprogram/flash the vehicle controller.
NOTE: There are two methods to download flash files to StarSCAN®. The first
(preferred) method is to download the flash files to the StarSCAN® from
the
internet. The second method is to download the flash files from the
StarSCAN® Software Update CD.

and

| Details of flash procedure are not posted - The reprogramming procedure requires access to software and equipment that most owners do not have. The very long and involved programming procedure will not be posted here. To see the specific instructions, you can obtain or view a copy of this TSB at your dealership. If you can not find a helpful dealer, contact me to obtain the complete bulletin. |
NOTE: Due to the PCM programming procedure, a DTC may be set in other modules
(TCM, BCM, MIC, SKIM, etc.) within the vehicle, if so equipped. Some DTC's
may cause the MIL to illuminate. Check all modules using “Module Scan”,
record the DTC's, and erase these DTC's prior to returning the vehicle to the
customer. Erase any DTC's in the PCM only after all other modules have had
their DTC's erased.
NOTE: The following step is required by law when reprogramming a PCM and/or
TCM.
Type the necessary information on the “Authorized Modification Label”
p/n 04275086AB
and attach near the VECI label (Fig. 2).
